Laptop Accessories FAQ

Q: Are laptop computers ergonomic?

A: With a connected keyboard and screen, laptops defy most if not all recommendations for ergonomic computing. However, with the right laptop accessories, a level of ergonomics can be achieved when using a laptop.

Q: Can using a laptop computer cause undesirable work conditions?

A: Yes. People who use laptop computers consistently exercise poor posture, leading to unnecessary neck strain, back discomfort and ultimately, poor productivity. We carry laptop accessories that can aid in minimizing these problems, and increase productivity in the workplace.

Q: How do I use my laptop most ergonomically?

A: This question may be answered by first determining how often one uses a laptop computer. Following are guidelines to follow, depending on frequency of use of laptops and based upon research of some of the nations top ergonomic experts. (Dr. Alan Hedge, Cornell University, the U.S. Center for Disease Control, Chris Grant PhD, CPE and the University Computing Research Center in Ergonomics at Texas A&M University.)

  1. Occasional Laptop Users:

  • Use comfortable, ergonomic seating, and sit back completely in the chair
  • Adjust the angle of laptop screen to reduce head tilt and neck strain
  • Be sure to place the laptop into the most neutral wrist position
  1. Frequent Laptop Users:

  • Elevate laptop at or near eye level
  • Use a separate keyboard and mouse, both positioned at elbow height
  • Maintain a viewing distance of 18" - 30"
  • Adjust screen angle to be perpendicular to line of sight
  • Take rest brakes - up to 5 minutes per hour
